Expedition to Sápmi
The Native Land of the Sámi People
Finland & Norway
Come experience the land of the midnight sun and reconnect to the ancient culture of the Sámi, the indigenous culture of Finland and Norway. You will meet Sámi healers, visit their holy sites, and make your own Sámi drum. The traditional Sámi ceremonies were based on a deep connection to nature. Praising the sun and giving offerings to the seidis were common at one time. The seidis are sacred monuments such as stone formations, islands, and fells.

A healer in the community acted as a liaison between the different levels of the universe—the heavens, earth, and underworld. These levels, as well as important icons of everyday life, were often represented on the drums of the healer. The healer used the drum to fall into a trance, take the guise of an important animal—reindeer, bear, lemming, or salmon—and then carry out the task entrusted to him by the community. |

Experience
The Sacred Valley of the Incas
& Increase Your Fluency in Spanish |
Come experience one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Americas and enhance your ability to speak Spanish. This experience is designed specifically for those who wish to make a breakthrough in their fluency with the Spanish language while immersed in the beauty and wonder of The Sacred Valley of the Incas. |
The first week will be spent in Cusco, the archeological capital of the Americas and the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city. We will formally study Spanish in the mornings at our lodgings and then explore the city and its environs during the afternoons in order to truly experience both the language and the unique culture of the area. Special outings and activities will be planned with local guides and healers at the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Tipon, Quillarumi, and Tambo Machay to give you a true feeling for the ancient ways of the Incas. We will visit the community of Chinchero to meet with members of the Cusi Huayna Youth Group—a group that works to keep alive the traditional music, dance, and ritual for the first peoples of the Andes, the Quechua.
During the second week, we will continue our tour of the valley and continue to practice skills in Spanish. We will visit the ruins at Pisac and stay near the massive fortress at Ollantaytambo. While there, we will attend a pottery workshop, in Spanish, created especially for our group and learn the ancient ways from a renowned local artist. We continue on to Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas and South America’s best known and most spectacular archaeological site. We will travel back thorough the Sacred Valley staying at a wonderful and relaxing retreat center. Our journey ends with a ceremony at a pre-Incan site and closing dinner once we return to Lima.
